The Agency Albert Park agent Adrian Wood said a renovation to the inner-city pad was completed about four years ago.

“It blends period features into modern design and it’s also very spacious for South Melbourne,” Mr Wood said.

“It has all the upgrades you’d want for an old Victorian.”

A cleverly designed 13m-long skylight floods sunshine into the open-plan living room and adjoined modern kitchen, complete with concrete benches, Smeg appliances and a butler’s pantry.

European wood floorboards and feature walls also add extra charm to the two-storey Federation abode.

Large gardens are another rare highlight for the suburb, with an easy-care courtyard including built-in seating and an outdoor shower.

CoreLogic shows the property last sold for $565,000 in 2006, before renovations were undertaken. It has been rented out for more than $1450 a week since 2017.

Mr Wood said the family had relocated to Sydney a few years ago and were selling after they chose not to return to Melbourne.

The house is in a highly sought-after position, close to some of Melbourne’s most prestigious streets in the St Vincent Gardens precinct.

The area is known to have the most expensive land per square metre in Melbourne, with some other big deals being done recently.

In May a traditional Victorian house at 60 St Vincent Place North sold for more than $9 million.

Another historic terrace at No. 36 sold for $5.8 million in March along the tightly held strip.
