NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police arrested a man that they said was walking around parts of Uptown pointing a gun at people and at passing cars.

Police arrested Chase Hardesty on Sunday at the intersection of Magazine and Leontine streets.

Police said a man and a woman first called them and told officers that they saw what appeared to be a gun barrel coming from the mail slot opening of an apartment door and facing the two victims.

The door of the apartment, located in the 5300 block of Camp Street, then opened and the man told police he saw a white male, later identified as Hardesty, standing in the doorway with what appeared to be a handgun. They told police they ran away when they saw the gun.

Police then received several additional calls concerning a man fitting Hardesty's description in the area of Magazine Street and Bellecastle Street holding a handgun and pointing it at multiple people and at passing cars.

Witnesses helped police find Hardesty, and they said they found him with a loaded handgun.

Hardesty surrendered to police and was booked into Central Lockup on two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, and one count each of aggravated criminal damage, simple criminal damage to property, illegal use of a weapon and illegal carrying of a weapon.
